Progress - Linen Closet

November 2013

The floorboard removal in the Foyer also continued into the old Toilet room leading to the area connecting to the drainpipes down to the Ground Floor. Here we made our first disappointing discovery on this floor, with some very rotten and insect infested boards. The cause of this may have been a bad connection between the toilet bowl and the pipes (and the floor structure), resulting in a very moist area around the connection with the pipes. Eventually all the floorboards in the room were removed, the packed earth insulation extracted and the toilet fixtures taken away (this room will not be a Toilet room after the renovation). All the flooring around the old toilet will be removed to form a Services Shaft at the rear of this room, while the front half of the room will be a Linen Closet (for the B&B bedrooms).

March 2014

The back half of the closet is where the services will run from floor to floor. Already there is a jumble of wires running through a hole in the roof up to the 2nd Floor. The connections between all the floors is shown in the photo at right, with holes in the floors and ceilings on each floor.

April 2014

The assorted cables were starting to increase as more and more services were placed around the house. These were tidied up a bit by the installation of a rack at the back of the room, making space for the VMC ductwork which will also take up some space in this area.

May 2014

A few more cables and pipes were connected to this control room in May, which also saw the installation of some isolating valves which will enable the water to be shut off completely to individual floors, without disrupting the water supply to other floors - a very useful feature when doing emergency plumbing repairs when the B&B is in operation.

June 2014

More cables and pipes were connected to this control room in June; as can be seen it is getting quite crowded in the room and the ceiling space. We just hope there is some space left for the original intended function of this room as a Linen Closet for the B&B!

August 2014

The VMC ductwork was boxed-in in July and the cabling tidied up substantially. By August, the control cabinet had doors attached, with the control panel above being the only sign of activity in this room. Quite a transformation from the early chaos!  Now all the room needs is some shelving, alongside the boxed-in VMC ductwork at the right, to allow it to assume its original intended function as a Linen Closet.
